Archive Postings
March, 2010
Increased demands on your Webservant's time steals time once available for the website and requires my decision to scale back. I hope to keep the Archives active with postings of important events, photos, announcements, news and articles from time to time. However, postings of every classmate conversation will be curtailed. I ask now for your understanding and support. Steve Holcomb, Webservant

THE SPIRIT OF '67 Were I to do it all again would I the better be?
Would I avoid my errors made rewriting history?
Make dearer friends and squander not my youthful energy?
Or savor more the times of joy at Glynn Academy? Who knew how quick the decades pass and high school days receed
and friendships fade in busy-ness of life's insistency?
Yet red brick walls and creaky halls still haunt my memory
of Jennings, Parker, Hinson, Barr and "Here comes Mr. Lee!"
What grace be this that reconnects in camaraderie
this class revived unphased by years and far geography?
For time erases not the knots that tied myself to thee
nor mocks our yet met hopes and dreams as foolish fantasy.
To share the joys and pains of each creates community.
Friends old and new together forge a greater entity
so none need face the world alone; was this our destiny?
The thriving spirit of our class has made a better me.
Steve Holcomb

ALL ABOARD THE E-TRAIN!

January 21, 2006
About August, 2005, several of us got on this "train", and steamed out of the station headed in the direction of wherever the tracks would take us. The boilers were fired up with lots and lots of messages filled with wonderful, hot and glowing memories from the past. The more we fed it the faster we traveled as we rumbled down the tracks that emerged from the past to lead us to tomorrow, picking up passengers along the way, each with a ticket marked, "Class of '67". This train has over four hundred seats--one for each of the Class of '67. The tickets were issued a long time ago, but today only 1/3 of the seats are taken. Around every bend we look ahead in hopes of picking up more passengers with these exclusive tickets. Are we behind schedule? Are we ahead of schedule? Do our future passengers know we are coming? Some of us already on the train wonder why they are not standing by the tracks just waiting for us to pick them up. Some of us have called ahead to tell our friends that the train is coming so they can wait expectantly by the tracks.
Tonight the train has almost come to a halt. Is it because our engines are running out of steam? Have we not stoked our furnace with enough memories from the past to keep us heading to the future? Some of our newest passengers who have recently hopped on board do not know just how fast this train can go. They have not experienced the excitement and power of the "train"--an almost healing power. Some of us may be "getting bored" just sitting in our seats, not speaking at all, looking for ways to find fault in others, not doing our part to keep the steam built up in the boiler. Fate purchased our tickets for us some 38 plus years ago, but does the ticket really promise us a free ride? Do we allow other people standing by the tracks to hop on board, to take our seats, and do our work for us even though their tickets are stamped "Class of '66, or 65"? No, this is our own train and our responsibility. At least that is what is on the sign under the light on the engine and spray painted on the side of each of the passenger cars. We have all been reassured that this train will not leave behind or pass by one "Class of '67" traveler who still has a ticket. It is not easy keeping this train moving along, but the tracks are sure and will always keep us heading in the right direction.
The speed, well, that is up to us.
The E-Train Engineer
Billy Brewer

Addendum
Most of us are much bigger people now than we were in high school. Not just bigger around, but bigger as in more caring and thoughtful to each other. There is no "in crowd" anymore. We enjoy being around each other more than ever. We are made up of all different types of people, but have a common bond that glues us together forever. Larry Lane is a Baptist preacher in Waycross. Steve Holcomb is a Clergyman in Marble, NC. Some of us are retired. Some will work forever! Some of us are Liberal. Some are conservative. Some of us are quite successful. Some are just trying to get along. Some place their faith in themselves, and others depend on a more divine presence to direct their daily walk. A good number of us have gone on to be with the Lord or to a different place, and some of us are battling to maintain a good quality of life as far as our health is concerned. No matter what the case, we are probably better friends now than we have ever been.
We are so glad you found us on the internet. Welcome aboard the E-Train down Memory Lane. Glad you still had your ticket. Your seat is ready. Climb aboard and join us to wherever the tracks lead. Scoot over--we will be picking up more along the way!

P.S. If you are on the Loud List and will be on vacation for a few days, just send a message and I can move you to the Quiet List until you get home. No problem. If you are on the Quiet List and think you might be missing something, just let me know and I can move you to the Loud List for awhile. No problemo! BB

August 15, 2010
As E-mail Engineer I maintain several email "lists" and every classmate/email address is on one of these lists or another. In a nutshell here is how it is set up, taking into consideration how AT&T/Yahoo/BellSouth has recently made it even more difficult to send messages out to the masses:
67 Loud List: (74 members) Gets just about everything as does the.....
67 Loud List B: (77 members) This is a part of the old Loud List, but now necessary because of AT&T/Yahoo/BellSouth.
67 Quiet List: (68 members) Gets less of everything. For example: Quiet List folks didn't get all the book suggestions we've been sending out over the past couple of days.
67 Away Temporarily: (currently 7 members) Most of these folks are gone on vacation or will be away from their computers for a few days or Till Further Notice. Don't want their computers to get clogged up while they are gone.
67 Event Emailers: (50 members) These folks don't need any of the chat, just want to know what is planned in the way of Mini's or Major Reunions.
67 Never List: (18 members) These folks aren't at all interested in getting daily messages and really don't want to take the time to come to Mini's. They are like moving on in life, for lack of a better way of saying it. I just keep their name/email address on this list so they will be handy in case of a Class of '67 Armageddon.
67 Devotional Subscribers: (70 members) Our Class of '67 Classmates who chose to receive Larry Lane's weekly Bible Studies. This list is open to all, but you've got to ask to be put on it, because of the "nothing too religious" rule.
67 Devotional Subscribers B: (42 members) This is the same as above, but members of the other classes of the 60's decade that are on the "Friends of '67" list, now known as "60's Friends".
67 Friends 67ers: (39 members) This list is made up of Class of '67 classmates who when asked chose to continue to receive email messages sent in from members of the other classes of the 60's decade. Remember, for awhile there, we were getting floods of email from those not in our class that seemed to have a lot to say. These folks didn't care about that, they loved hearing from anyone who went to Glynn Academy.
67 Friends and 67 Friends B: (71 & 43 members) Two groups made up of classmates from the other classes and the teachers we have reconnected with over the past five years. "B" group is because of the AT&T/Yahoo/Bellsouth rule changes. We thought they had someone to take over being email operator for this group, but that didn't work out, unfortunately. I had to take it back over.
60 to 62 Classmates: (43 members) As you can imagine, this group is made up of classmates from the Class of '60 to the Class of '62, plus one from the Class of '57, one from '58 and one from '59. There are some on our Master List of Class of '67 Email Addresses that were at one time actively reconnected, but for some reason, probably got a new email address and failed to give us the change, or their computer died and they haven't replaced it yet.
That's about it. Just thought you'd like to know. Maybe after reading the above blah, blah, blah, you might want to try out another list or be added to a second or third list. Just let me know. This is so simple any caveman can do it.

ABOUT THIS WEBSITE This website has been created in the hope that it may benefit classmates as an online archive of the Glynn Academy Class of '67 Reconnection Project. It is intended to be an easily accessible and organized repository of communications sent to all participants through the "E-train Engineer", Reconnection Project Operator, Billy Brewer. As of February, 2010, there are over 330 webpages storing over 24,000 emails and 220 photo pages archiving over 4,400 photos in the Gallery.
The success of the Reconnection Project can be measured by the quality and quantity of the messages, new and renewed friendships, and planned activities. However, that same success has filled e-mail accounts and caused some classmates to regretfully or accidentally delete messages they would otherwise save. For them it is hoped this online archive may be a resource to recover and save those messages. Classmates who take extended trips and request a temporary suspension of email may find this site one source of messages they missed.
Maybe the classmates who will most benefit from this archive are those who have not yet hopped aboard the e-train as it journeys toward and beyond our 40th Reunion. May this website help new arrivals discover and contribute to all the wit, humor, wisdom, knowledge, memories, talent, and surprises we have experienced. Most but not all of the topics we have discussed have been "fun and light". Those who remain actively involved in emailing will attest to the power of the Class of '67 Reconnected Community in times of personal crisis, need, triumphs and tragedy. It has been observed that this project is something like a family discussion around the dinner table. We encourage you to join "the extended family" and make the most of this opportunity.
All should know that the Reconnection Project "Topics" are far from being exhausted or ever considered "dead". A classmate may contribute to any "topic" or discussion at anytime by emailing Billy Brewer. In particular, you are encouraged to send in your "How Well Do You Know Me?" information and your "Guess Who?" question. Most, but not all, messages are archived on this website. The "Contents" page is intended to be a guide to locate particular messages on the many shelves in this library. If one of your messages has not been posted and you believe it should be posted, please re-send it to Billy Brewer to the attention of "E" Webservant. "E" may have accidentally overlooked it, posted it somewhere you didn't see, posted it but some glitch prevents it from being viewable, or simply didn't receive it (yes, it happens)! Also be aware that postings to this archive will likely be later than the current discussion in the Reconnection Project. This website is a "work in progress" that should receive enough updates and additions to warrant your frequent checking.
You have five ways to navigate around this sprawling website:
1. Click "Contents" and from this "master list" click the page you wish to view.
2. Click "Menu" and from there click the first page of a chapter you wish to view.
3. Click "Next" to go straight through and view every page in this website.
4. Click "Topics Page" to go to a listing of archived topics with quick links to those topics. You are invited to contribute to any topic at anytime.
5. The Next page after Contents is an efficient "Condensed Contents" of the entire website.
This site is designed to be viewed with your display set at 800 x 600 and the text size medium.
Sharing your photos is welcomed, invited and encouraged. We love photos of your children, grandkids, pets, places you've been, etc., etc., IF they also contain yourself and/or other classmates. Please identify each photo: (example) "My daughter 'Skunk', my pet snake 'Fang', my son-in-law 'Cyclops' and me holding my grandbaby 'Stinky' at 'LOL Land' April 31, 2002". Please size each photo to no more than a standard 640 pixels wide (or no less than 450 pixels wide) and no greater than 150 pixels per inch (or less than 72 pixels per inch) density.
Know that care is taken to protect individual privacy and personal contact information such as email addresses, home or office addresses and telephone nembers are not posted unless necessary. This is a public access website. Any internet surfer who finds this website may read through its pages. On the other hand, this website is not registered which should help keep it away from the beginning of search engine results.
Now for some required legal blab: Visitors to this website are hereby informed that contents, photos and images within are protected by copyright and may not be published, quoted or used without expressed written permission of the copyright holder. Visitors acknowledge by freely entering that this website is for the use of Glynn Academy alumni and staff in general, and the Glynn Academy Class of 1967 in particular. Opinions and information presented within are the responsibility of the individual author.
This website is intentionally designed to be "archive only" and therefore is not interactive. There are no message boards, chat rooms, blogs, or direct postings. Nor are there any plans to add these. Such "enhancements" would likely diffuse the Reconnection Project energy and focus. Messages posted on this archive have come through Billy Brewer.
Your comments (especially praises) are invited.
Your ideas and suggestions (especially good ones) are encouraged.
Your corrections (OK, mistakes happen) are solicited.
Grammar Police please control you impulses as there is very limited editing of messages (for clarification) to help preserve the original as received.
Your active participation in the Reconnection Project is wholeheartedly requested. Every classmate has a memory worth sharing and a unique perspective on our life and times. Your sharing will not only enrich our lives, but will reward your own.

TIP Those that are having trouble getting into the Email Archive Website around your McAfee security system, try this tip from Walter Fouche'. Thanks, Walter. Maybe this will help our McAfee classmates. Billy Brewer Sunday, March 12, 2006

Billy,
When you get the "Danger" message, click on "Tools" and then click on the AntiPhishing option. Click on allow blacklisted options, then you will get a message to click on the ga67 archives. It worked for me.

January 20, 2007 The Glynn Academy website now has a link for the Class of '67 Email Archive Website. This should make it a lot easier for our missing classmates to "reconnect" with us, and we may also attract a good number of "Friends of '67", too. Isn't that neat?
If you know of someone who graduated from Glynn Academy between the years of 1960 and 1969, or a teacher who taught us during that same decade, please share this information with them, and encourage them to contact me to be added to the list. Emailing works great for me!
Thanks, and have a great day!

I went to Google’s G-Mail and opened an account. Now when BellSouth is giving me a hard time I can hopefully revert to my G-Mail account and continue with ‘67 business as usual. Thanks for the suggestion, Steve Holcomb.

Attention All Glynn Academy Alumni
Veterans Who Served in Vietnam Charles Cooper has created a website dedicated to honor Glynn Academy alumni combat veterans who served in Vietnam and "to document the experience of our high-school in Vietnam. What I am trying to do is to provide a page for each Glynn student who served in Vietnam and to collect as much information." Anyone who ever officially attended Glynn Academy (graduation NOT necessary) and served in Vietnam in any capacity during the war years is eligible to be on the site. I will try to post whatever information I receive (photos, information, stories, etc.) I will not be able to do direct research on named individuals, but will post whatever research classmates, family members and others provide as appropriate. I will do the page formatting, but if anyone wants to provide me with their own html pages I will try to work with those as well. I am only interested in posting specific information, remembrances, testimonials and unit information, awards, etc. about each veteran. I will not post political information of any kind. If you can scan a high-school photo that adds a lot.
